4/5/2012 Results- BASEBALL DAY

TPiR: Before I begin this TPIRecap, I have a big announcement to make regarding next week's shows- for those of you who hate having to try for the really big money playing Pay the Rent, you can really do so on Pl!nko any day during Super Pl!nko Week! That's right, each day next week courtesy of Publishers Clearing House, that most popular cash Pricing Game will be played & I will dub the last Pl!nko Chip dropped as the Golden PC. If the GPC lands in that center slot, s/he will add to their winnings a jackpot that starts at $20K (half of that's provided by the show, while the other half comes from PCH) & grows by that amount for each day it isn't won, up to the $100K limit on Friday if it isn't won after Thursday's episode. Of course, there will be no jackpots whatsoever on "Price" in the near future starting the week after that.

Now that I've said all that, here come Brady Bullard, Jessica Faulstich, Andrew Dawling & Jennifer Mitchell; the first IUFB's a pair of NOKIA Lumia 710 smartphones w/ the one-year plan (George's podium; "Talk That Talk" by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z).

Brian identifies the FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH for $3K.

Thursday's Featured Trip: InterContinential The Clement Monterey ($5,270)

Gorton's Jackpot Round: People

He calls an instant dud of T while on the green 1/2 KIA. Secondly, Tammy calls the back-to-back S's at the end of this puzzle for the Wild Card but then loses that to the Bankrupt next to top dollar. Third, Lauren repeats the T. Fourth, Brian calls three $600 N's, buys the A & calls a $1K P pairing while on the Jackpot...

P _ _ N _ _ / A N _

P _ _ N _ _ S S

...& finds a PRINCE AND PRINCESS for the $7K kitty & a total payout this round of $9,550, $12,550 overall.

SOLE DUD: $500 T (Brian)
SOLE BANKRUPT: Tammy
SOLE DQ: Lauren (T duplication on yellow $400)

Mystery Round: Before & After

Tammy's letters begin this round w/ a $600 pair of N's, but an A buy ends her turn almost immediately. Second, Lauren puts in a four of a kind of S's for $3,200 (and this is the second puzzle in a round that ends w/ -SS) & three E's prior to getting the same Bankrupt as before to give back $2,950. Third, Brian has lit three R's for the CA getaway, but he gets the same fate as the ladies. Next, Tammy calls up the $900 T & buys three O's...

S E E / S _ O T

R _ N

_ O R / _ O N _ R E S S

...you won't "SEE SPOT RUN" FOR CONGRESS anytime soon, but this woman's on the board.

SOLE DUD: A (Tammy)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (Lauren & Brian)

Current Scores:

Brian: $12,550/Tammy: $1K/Lauren: $0

Prize Puzzle Round: Event

Lauren instantly gets two T's for the Beach Bikes GT, Free PLAYS two A's and two R's for the same 1/2 KIA & $1K, followed by two I's but then a negative of T. Second, Brian digs up a $600 T, a $400 D, the rest of the vowels (two O's, a U & two E's) & trip F's for nine more bills...

F I N D I N G / A

F O U R - _ E A F

_ _ O _ E R

...prior to FINDING A FOUR-LEAF CLOVER good for 1,150 more bucks & the $5.5K Ireland trip.

SOLE DUD: $300 T (Lauren)

TONIGHT'S SPIN ID: LT00023 (Latasha T.)

Current Scores:

Brian: $19,200 in cash & trip/Tammy: $1K/Lauren: ZIP

$3K T-U: On the Map

T _ _ _ _ / _ A Y

_ _ _ _ _ _ _

Brian solves TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA fast to go to the $22,200 mark.

R4: What Are You Doing?

To start for him on this solution, he has a $5K N, two I's, a $500 G, triple E's & a $2K quintet of T's, then he runs into the other Bankrupt to lose out on $7K. Tammy secondly discovers a $1,200 H quartet but then buys a bad vowel of U. Third, Lauren calls for an L, which is also nowhere to be found in this puzzle. Back to Brian, he lights the $300 R, the leftover O, the $300 M & the $900 S & C...

H I T T I N G / T H E

H O M E S T R E T C H

...as we're HITTING THE HOMESTRETCH, he's deposited $2,150 more into his overall winnings.

DUDS: $900 L (Lauren), U (Tammy)
SOLE BANKRUPT: Brian

Current Scores:

Brian: $24,350 in cash & Ireland/Tammy: $1K/Lauren: NIL

Last Chance Round: Place

$1.5K for all the consonants. After Tammy calls the M to leave only one consonant remaining in this puzzle...

M _ _ N

_ N T R _ N _ _

...she flubs the second word w/ a response of MAIN INTABLE, likely missing out on $7.5K more. Lauren follows that w/ the C call...

M _ _ N

_ N T R _ N C _

...& she'll walk out that MAIN ENTRANCE w/ $3K more than she had when she arrived.

DUDS: H (Brian), L (Lauren), S (Brian)
SOLE DQ: Tammy (blown solve)

(Note: The only vowels left beeps didn't sound in that round.)

Final Scores:

Brian: $24,350 in cash & vacation/Tammy: $1K/Lauren: $3K
GT: $28,350

TONIGHT'S BANKRUPT TRASH (excluding cardboard): $15,220 in cash & Monterey

Big Money Round #135: Nobody's w/ him, but this guy spins the M in AMERICA'S, the second time this week's that's been landed on.

Category: Things

Quiz show fans might get a kick out of this puzzle, at least from this RSTLNE setup:

T R _ _ _ _

_ _ E S T _ _ N S

PBHO gives him just the chosen vowel...

T R _ _ _ _

_ _ E S T _ O N S

...& TRICK QUESTIONS are wrong. We needed TRIVIA QUESTIONS & he loses the $30K, so he leaves w/ $24,350 in cash & Ireland.

J!: I would like to congratulate this GS for winning a Peabody Award! More cash's sure to be awarded to either Joey Falco or:

John Sellers (Brooklyn)- Writer
Emily Garber (Portland, OR)- Civil liberties lawyer

Thursday's Topics to Start:

A SHOWER OF APRIL
THE "IV" LEAGUE
TIME ZONE CITIES
BUY GUM!
TV DRAMAS
WHAT I MEANT TO SAY WAS...

Halfway through the Jeopardy! Round, John's leading Joey $4,200-$3K; Emily's $400 in the hole. On the next-to-last clue of the round for A Shower of April, Joey has the Daily Double w/ $3,800 & is $1,800 behind John for first place; Emily's $3,200 on the good side. For another C-note:

It speaks volumes that the U.S. government established this institution on Apr. 24, 1800.

"What is The Library of Congress?"...correct to inch up to $4,800.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $800
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $2,600
TOTAL LACH TRASH: $3,400

DJ! Menu:

MURDER, SHE WROTE
DREAM-Y SONGS
HUMAN BODY BITS
ADVICE COLUMN SIGNATURES
GRAB IT
"The Borgias" (the second season of this Showtime series begins this Sunday)

Emily immediately goes DD Hunting, starting in the center of Murder, She Wrote...after neither one's found halfway through this round of play, Joey gets one because of the $1,600 Human Body Bit & he's slightly in Lock Game Territory w/ $11,600; Emily's got $5,600 & John's at $4,400. The champion risks $3K & his LGT positioning on this:

This gland secretes digestive enzymes & glucagon.

"What is...the pancreas?"...good guess, and right for $14,600! W/ only the same-valued Advice Column Signature remaining after this, John seizes a much-needed DD opportunity from the $2K answer about "The Borgias" w/ $6,800 in his till, since Joey's at the $15K level. $3K's a good enough bet for this clue:

Sibling to Lucrezia & Cesare & equally treacherous, Juan Borgia was murdered in 1497, his body found in this river.

He's shaking his head when he says "What is The Tiber?"...indeed it was to stay in the match w/ $9,800! We don't have time for the leftover $2K answer.

SOLE ATTEMPTED TS: $1,200 (Grab It)
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $16K
TOTAL DJ! LACH TRASH: $17,200

Scores After DJ!:

Joey: $15K
Emily: $5,600
John: $9,800

CORYAT SCORES:

Joey: $13,400
Emily: $5,600

John: $8,800

FINAL J! TOPIC: Political Terms.

The OED traces these two parallel terms to an Oct. 30, 2000 "Today" show discussion of an electoral map.

Emily Garber nails it w/ "What are 'red state' & 'blue state'?" & risked four 5's, so up to $11,155 she goes. John Sellers is shaking his head for the second clue in a row...for no reason again, as he just took a $1 lead. Joey Falco...GETS THE WIN & THE $30K DOUBLER! Three-night total: $53,999.

Millionaire Thursday:

Conclusion of Lisa Macaione's Game
Game 2
Start of Game 3

(Also today: Samantha failed to make it to the Super Deal, but still took home from Door #2 an $8,483 appliance suite. The Big Deal of the Day behind Door #1 had a trip to Thailand w/ luggage worth $22,741.)
