WoF: We're saluting the California Coast this week. The first Toss-Up has such a flavor & the category of Place:

_ _ T Y / O F

A _ G _ L S

Michelle says CITY OF ANGELS, even though that sounds like the nickname of Philadelphia to me, for $1K. Our first trio of '12:

Michelle Whitaker (Memphis, TN)- A firefighting lieutenant for 15 years who also plays golf & bakes stuff at home while collecting recipes
Andrew Boston (South Elgin, IL)- A Chemical Engineering student at Northwestern University who's the Vice-President of a fraternity called Fiji & is currently researching catalysts for industrial progress as of six months ago
Meghann Sullivan (her parents are from Massachusetts & I presume she's from that state as well)- An Army Major & sports fan married to Randy Barton from Maine; they named their two dogs after Carl Yastrzemski & Jason Varitek

The $2K T-U Thing board:

_ E A _ H _ R

J _ _ _ E T

Meghann correctly puts on a LEATHER JACKET.

After a 76 gift tag goes on the wheel, the IHOP Jackpot Round subject's & Song/Artist the first California Coast trip's to the InterContinental The Clement Monterey worth $5,270 (w/ a red airplane category wipe). Meghann goes first by going Bankrupt on the left part of the Million Dollar Wedge. Secondly, Michelle claims the gas card w/ four R's, calls two T's for $1,800 & buys three E's & two O's, then follow four N's for the Wild Card, three B's for another $1,800 & we have...

B O R N / T O / R _ N

B _ / B R _ _ E

_ _ R _ N _ _ T E E N

...she solves "BORN TO RUN" BY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN for another $4,100 in cash & gas card & a new total of $5,100.

SOLE BANKRUPT OF THE ROUND: Meghann
FINAL TOTAL FOR FIRST UNCLAIMED JACKPOT OF '12: $6.5K

She'll also lead off in the Mystery/Before & After Round w/ three R's for $10.5K & two T's to make that a total of $17.5K courtesy of the WC, followed by seven E's, an A, a $300 H, an O, a couple N's for another thousand dollars & the green 1/2 KIA, a $300 D & the rest of the vowel department (two I's & a U), after which come a $500 S, a couple F's for nine more Benjamins, a $450 V, a pair of C's for California & a couple L's to add yet another C-note. Following all that, the board...

C R E A _ - F I L L E D

C E N T E R

O F / T H E

U N I V E R S E

...& she's discovered the CREAM-FILLED CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE to add $20,700 & the California getaway to her winnings, which launches her total to $31,070 in cash & prizes!

PERFECT ROUND!

This Prize Puzzle Round could be key to making a monster comeback; the category of it's Phrase. Andrew spins the wheel first & gets a $450 T, an $800 H & completes the opening word of THE w/ the double E's, followed by an $800 N but then a dud vowel buy of O. Second for Meghann are a $500 S but then a dud consonant in R. Third, Michelle duds out immediately by saying L. Andrew next lights up a $900 M, three I's, the $300 G at the end, two A's to round out the vowels, a $900 Z, D for dud while on FP & a $300 V...

T H E / V I E _ / I S

A M A Z I N G

...& he'll probably say "THE VIEW IS AMAZING" from a room at Nick Troubetzkoy's Anse Chastanet courtesy of Hotwire.com, a St. Lucian trip worth $9,600 for a total this round of $13,050 in cash & trip.

DUDS: $500 D (Andrew), $300 L (Michelle), O (Andrew), $300 R (Meghann)

FIRST WINNING SPIN ID OF THE YEAR: AL3825580 (Amanda L.)

This Around the House T-U's worth $3K:

F A M _ _ _

_ O _ T _ _ I T

Andrew remembers at least one FAMILY PORTRAIT in his family's house to move to $16,050.

We're seeking some Fictional Characters for the Last Chance Round tonight & the consonant value's gonna be...$1,600. Michelle calls two H's...

_ N _ _ H T _ / _ _ / T H _

_ _ _ N _ / T _ _ _ _

...& nails KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE to seal the deal w/ a grand total of $34,270 in maingame winnings! Andrew leaves in a distant, but very healthy second place w/ $16,050 in cash & St. Lucia & Meghann has the $2K in T-U money.

$52,320 in cash & merchandising have been won so far tonight.

NO BANKRUPT TRASH TONIGHT

First Big Money Round This Year: Like the Great Escapes Week set that was taped on the same week, the convertible on offer's the '12 Volkswagen Eos. Michelle collects the & envelope and her BMR category's Phrase. This eight-letter puzzle starts w/:

_ R _ N _

_ _ _

CDGA gives her...

_ R _ N G

_ A _

...but she literally goes the WRONG WAY several times & loses $40K. She still leaves w/ $34,270 in cash & stuff.

J!: Dave Leach tries for better luck in Final Jeopardy! tonight against:

Elizabeth Weichel (Raleigh, NC)- Museum collection specialist
Art Hilliker (Irvine, PA)- Steel mills systems repairman

First Categories of '12:

ARTHUR'S CAMELOT
PREFIXES
RECENT BOOKS
THE SUPER BOWL'S TOP RUSHER
C.S., I
ALPHABETICALLY LAST

Dave's right on the first three Prefixes before hitting the Daily Double behind its $800 spot & making it a $2,400 True DD:

"Anti-" means "against"; "Ante-" means this.

"What is after?"...no, it was the opposite- before. But he's leading anyway at the first break over Dave $4K-$2,400.

LACH TRASH (all unattempted): $1,600

Post-Round 1 Scores:

Dave: $5,600
Art: $7K
Elisabeth: $1K

Double Jeopardy! Lineup:

JFK'S CAMELOT
FASHION
SPACE-Y MUSIC
SCULPTURE
STATES' HIGHEST POINTS
THAT "BIT" AT THE END

Dave finds another early DD on the third "Bit" clue w/ $6,400; Elisabeth got the $400 one. The champion's wager this time's $5K, so for the lead, here's the clue:

Psychological term meaning to consciously or unconsciously restrain an impulse.

He carved a bust of Lincoln for the U.S. Capitol Rotunda; his much bigger one's in South Dakota.

"Who is (Gutzon) Borglum?"...he's back in first w/ $10,300!

SOLE ATTEMPTED TS OF THE ROUND: $800 (Sculpture)
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $9,200

Elisabeth: $7K

CORYAT SCORES:

Dave: $16,800
Art: $13K
Elisabeth: $7K

(BTW, make sure you take the Online Test at the show's website.)

FJ! SUBJECT: '70s Oscars.

This film whose title refers to an establishment holds the record for most wins, eight, without winning Best Picture.

ELISABETH:
Response: "What is 'Casino'?"
Wager: $3K
Final score: $4K

Dave Leach wrote down "What is 'Cabaret'?"...is right to finish w/ $14,001. Art Hilliker...didn't get it w/ "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" & misses out on a $25,900 victory, so Dave's a three-time champ! New total: $48,684.

WSS: One of these nights, a Hero's gonna lose. Hoping not to be it is Troy Jennings from Provo, UT (who's an Internet marketer & a student studying Speech Communications; he got married to his fiancee Tammy 16 days after this episode was taped).

Now, this may have been the very first game that was taped, because the rules are a little different. Instead of $1K-$20K (I think there are two $1Ks, $10Ks, $15K & $20Ks each, plus $3K & $5K) the dollar amounts for the Strangers in at least this game range from $1-$50K (not sure if they total exactly $100K too; each one doesn't do their usual animation when revealed).
